I believe that the problem with Forest Hill is that nobody cares enough to make an effort to make positive change, there needs to be more people that will be prepared to speak to the council, about issues that bother them, in fact are the council reading any of this stuff? if not how can we get them to respond.
I can't remember when they held that exibition for plans to regenerate Forest Hill (moving the staition to where WHSmith is now and other options), Forest Hill is surrounded by a big population and i think all of 2% turned up that day.
Saisbury's held an exhibition at Hornimans for their proposal, and i think i was the the last person an the last day to speak to the architect, i think i was there talking for more that an hour (you would never guess), because i am fed-up with bad design, i had little positive to say and i had mentioned the comments book that visitors had filled in and if they would respond to criticisms, since that day they changed their design and haven't held exhibition for it.
The station has seen better days, what about the space outside the Post Office (why didn't the farmers market opperate from there? much more visable and creates an attraction) there is so much fantastic potential in YOUR area, i am sure that we want to give our children a better life style and at the rate Forst Hill is going it's getting worse.
How can we get a response from the mayor? and the MP?

I hate to say this, and I don't mean to be rude to the general population of SE23 but I will anyway- there is a forum for Forest Hill called the Forest Hill Steering Group. It is badly attended usually unless there is something really controversial on . This Forum is supported by the Council and could be a very effective platform to air local views if only people would move their bottoms off their chairs and get along to the meetings. There is also the Sydenham and Forest Hill Area Forum, the most recent meeting in Feb attended by the Mayor, Len Duvall from the London Assembly and Jim Dowd MP. In short, there are plenty of opportunities to get in contact with local politicians and people so get on out there and get on with it!

I to went to the regeneration exhibition in FH some years ago. I believe it was held in the catering company that is now Latitude.
To be honest I found the attitude of those who were meant to be demonstating to us very partonising. They seemed far more interesting in talking amongst themselves.
I think the 2% figure quoted was wildly over thye top.
I agree I have not attented any of the meetings but I do care very much. The hours I work make it very difficult.

That does sound good that there are forums that allow us to air our views, but there is just a couple of things that bother me about this,
Does it target those that want a better environment but have no time out of work to do the councils work for them?
Where was the last one advertised and what time of day was it set for?
Is there forum published on a web or simply extended to the web where people can access it at any time and respond how and when they can and want?
The 'Community' has changed and so does the way thngs are discussed have to change in order to activate people.
se23.com is fantastic, a way where you can get disscussions going on just about anything, we can send messages back and foward for free without trace. I have read it from the time when just 1 or 2 disscussions were going on, at most it may be trivial but significant, most just want somthing done without getting involved, well, we rely on the authorities to make the right dicisions and for years they have dicided to hold meetings for ever whilst the area is built-up with no planning statagy in place.
I'm not aiming to be difficult i am aiming to understand Community and Communication.

Can I just echo Mat in part. Me and my family have fairly recently moved to area and are keen to play an active part in our community for our sake and the sake of our children.

But what with working, 2 children, school runs, school activities and day to day life, etc, with exception to this website, there seems little opportunity to participate, bar the odd questionaire.

I've not seen a single meeting or event advertised (not even on this website) and would certainly attend if I possibly could.

There is a conversation on this website entitled Forest Hill Steering Group, but it doesn't seem to get many hits or instill much interest. Also it isn't clear when the next meeting is or what the issues are.
I agree that there are quite a few things going on but it is difficult to access the information unless you know who to ask and what to ask for.
This is an issue for local councillors to sort out if they want to ensure as wide representation as possible. I have tried to phone the Council to find out more but no-one on the switchboard had heard about the Steering Group. The last meeting seems to have been in December. You would think they didn't really want people to find out more!
Anyone else any information on this?

When I wrote my e-mail I assumed that everyone was bombarded with the same community information as I was - clearly not the case, so I apologise! Seems the forum meetings, etc are not as well advertised as they ought to be. All I can suggest is that if people are interested , then they leave messages on the Steering Group conversation group, and ask Councillor Susan Wise to provide more information. Incidentally I also attended the presentation on the station, etc, but to this day have no idea as to what the follow up was/ next stage is. It would be nice if someone could tell me.
