If anyone, like me, is concerned about the poor provision of street lighting in Taymount Rise, especially in the area near the council refuse bins, then please go to:

http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/NewsAndViews/complainform.asp

and register a complaint.
Thanks.

Hallo
I'm also very concerned about the lighting situation in Taymount Rise and have been in contact with the council about this on several occasions. Their answer is that the required number of lighting columns are already in place which to me sounds like nonsense as clearly it's one of the darkest streets in the area. The more people who raise this issue with Lewisham council the better. I will do the same again until they get the message.

I agree Cathy. I have lived at the top of Taymount Rise for over 30 years and the lighting has not been improved in all that time. The 'required' number of poles may be in place but they are old and not very tall and frequently not working properly. Lets have a campaign to get them modernised. We got the roundabout resurfaced eventually despite the Council refusing for a long time on the basis that it was a 'Low Priority' road. Presumably the 'Low Priority' tag has also been applied to the street lighting.

I agree too. It's rather worrying walking home at night as a lone woman. Even if it is a 'low priority' road in the council's view, it's still a safety issue for those of us who live there.

I agree. I live off Taymount Rise and as a fast walker I feel quite embarrassed walking past(overtaking) other pedestrians due to the darkness. I worry about my girlfriend walking up the street.

Well I registered another complaint about lighting at the council website. If we can organise as many people as possible to do the same we might see some results, you never know.

Had a positive response from Lewisham council today:
"Alan Agent, the Street Lighting Manager is arranging to upgrade the lanterns to high pressure sodium (white light) on columns 1,2, 6 & 7 which still have the old low pressure sodium (orange light). This should significantly improve the lighting levels around the area."
Hurray!

That's great news, and I really hope it does make a difference, especially the area near the pathway round the back of those flats.

Thanks Allan for your perseverence.
