You know there's lots of moaning on this site.

As a counter-point, have you been to the Horniman Gardens recently?

They are looking so good - its great to know spring is only just round the corner. Crocuses and daffs everywhere.

This place isn't too bad you know...

Here here.
If I was looking to buy round here I think the discussions on this site would put me right off, but I live here and it's a great place. If you enjoy living a few miles from the buzz of one of the most exciting cities anywhere in the world you have to put up with a few disadvantges. Otherwise move up North, you can get a 4 bedroom in Doncaster for 100,000, nothing to do though.... unless your into field sports..

I agree, I feel so lucky having the Horniman close by. It's a much needed sanctuary for me, and many others like me without their own gardens. Has anyone tried out the evening courses on offer at the museum now? I did the creative writing course last year and found it to be inspiring and excellent.

I spent many happy hours in Horniman's Gardens when I was a kid. I can still remember it after 33 years in Australia - a great place.

A quick reminder - Gordan Lucas, mastermind of the new plantings, is leading a walk around the Gardens tonight. Meet 7.30.pm at the bandstand. (See Events)

i too spent most of my childhood playing in the park and the museum (i lived just next door). i came to Aus. 36yrs ago and it was with great pride and joy i was able to show my family the place when we were lucky enough to visit the UK a few years ago. it's a little treasure.

It is great this site is being looked at in Australia by ex Forest Hillians.
Horniman's is a great feature to the area. Unfortunately one of the few

I take it you mean the few besides:
1. (relatively) affordable property
2. Fairly reasonable public transport into town
3. Views, trees, attractive streets
4. Low levels of crime and antisocial behaviour
5. Decent schools, at least at primary level
I wholeheartedly agree Brian, apart from all that (very superficial aspects too!) the area is dreadful and we are most unlucky to live here.
