Royal Mail Mistakes

I live in Gabriel St Honor Oak Park and today I received 7, some of which were confidential letters ment for a completely different address in Whatman Road - 3 streets away. Hopefully the postman realised at some point that he was delivering to the wrong street - but as the number was not even remotely the same as mine this kind of mistake is pretty worrying. Has anyone else experienced this recently in SE23? I am going to complain to the local office as it seems it could be a sorting (or a personal error on the postmans part)

From personal experience this sort of thing seems to happen when the normal postal staff are on holiday and temps are brought in to cover. Not an excuse however so hopefully your complaint will result in things improving.

I had a cheque book that was addressed to a house five doors away!

Thanks Roz - the staff being on hols and having temps could be a likely case. It is a real pain for me as I was expecting some really important letters on Friday / Saturday and god knows where they have ended up! ;-o I have sent an email via Royal Mail's site to complain, they have a particular department for dealing with this and they said they will get back to me but am not holding my breath...

Suggest you call the local delivery office to speak to the manager directly rather - I have found this effective in the past and they generally do welcome feedback such as this as its a pain for them to manage. Cheers

A cheque book was sent to my address, but I never received it. Instead, someone used it to pay something for an amount of £1800 with it ! Hopefully, the signature they used didn't match my signature. This happened shortly after we stayed a few days without receiving any mail at all ... Either it got delived to the wrong address, or someone from the Royal Mail stole it. Now I will always go and collect my cheque books directly in the bank !

Hi Barbara - That is definitely the best thing to do, you just can't trust that cheque books or credit cards will arrive via Royal Mail... I just got the mail I was expecting last saturday! Spoke to the local office and they said they will look into this problem. I re-delivered the wrongly delivered mail and am sure most people would do the same. If anyone gets any odd mail maybe it is worth highlighting it on here in case it is an ongoing issue.
