I am very disturbed , but not surprised , to hear that our beloved council are proposing to introduce parking permits in the Devonshire Road area. Their excuse is to stop outsiders parking and taking the spaces away from locals. I have lived in Devonshire Rd for 18 years and have nether had a problem . This is simply another revenue earner.
These Controlled Parking Areas only create less parking , money for the council , more costs in traffic wardens etc

I agree as a fellow Devonshire road resident: parking is not under pressure at all. We should resist it. i always get to park right outside my front door.

However I am moving house in 2 weeks time so good luck!

Dear Brian

The idea of parking charges in Devonshire Road is complete and utter baloney! Should you have any RELIABLE information, as opposed to idiotic scaremongering from entirely predictable sources, please forward it to me and I will ensure that it is investigated and explained asap. Although the fact that you describe Lewisham Council as "beloved" tells me all that I need to know about your stand in the matter!

Best Wishes

Dear Mr Dowd
I thank you very much for your clear reply. I , like a number of others , I assume received a flyer through my door warning about this.I certainly have no evidence and very pleased to take your word that will not happen.
You are incorrect in your assumptions about my political leaning I did infact vote for you last time and may do so again.
CPZ's seem to be all over the borough and the one near Lewisham Hospital causes particular problems. It is true their is very limited parking at the hospital , but this is normally full and anyway limited to 2 hours. If you are visiting outpatients for instance how do you know how long you will be. Also it is inconvenient when visiting people in the Hospital.
I know this is outside the remit of Forest Hill and glad that you advise the sytem is not being introduced here
Best Regards

Dear Brian

There are many issues relating to Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) and Traffic Management Areas (TMA) throughout the Borough of Lewisham and these are invariably interlinked and overlapping. In my extensive experience of trying to resolve these problems (going back over 30 years) it has never been the case of a simple, or single, solution that will reconcile the interests of local residents with those from outside the area who use the public highway for transit or parking. The Council (beloved or otherwise) is reviewing the entire borough in this light and the wider area of Forest Hill will - quite properly - feature as one aspect of this consideration. However, I do not think that this semi-vicarious exchange of views is the most productive means of conveying information and if you would be so kind as to contact me via my constituency office - 43 Sunderland Road, Forest Hill, London SE23 2PS or House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA e-mail: jimdowd.newlabour@care4free.net - then I would be more than happy to provide more detailed information as this becomes available. I would also be delighted to explain, chapter and verse, the development of the Catford CPZ!

Best Wishes

We pay a very high Council tax for a very poor level of servis,The Goverment rated it Good, whilst All Londons Conservative Councils came in as Excerlent. in wandsworth band D council tax is £580 half what we pay in Lewisham, it is therefore fair comment for residents to ask if Conservative Councils can deliver Excerlent services, according to the Goverments Audit Report, why not in Labour Lewisham?
