Every Saturday at around 6:15am a council waste collection lorry loudly picks up rubbish from the back of the restaurant near my house. It beeps when it reverses up the road, makes a racket when it shakes the industrial bins to empty them, and the workers often chat away (perhaps more understandably) without any regard for how darn early it is.

Does anyone out there have / know how to get hold of information on laws covering waste collections or early morning deliveries??? I've spoken to the council about this already but haven't got very far and am unclear as to my rights.

Help / advice greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that Council vehicles are not allowed to start work before 7.00 a.m..
In reality they do.
Environmental Health should be able to help you.

I also hear this council vehicle in question sometimes, which can be really irritating, let see if this happens again.... Jbird out of interest have you noticed the planning permission notice for a block of flats being built at the end of Gabriel Street near said restaurant?? 3 x 2 bed flat and one 3 bed I think. I am quite concerned that this will cause alot more parking problems which we could do without!

Hi Tersie. Don't worry - planning officers denied permission in January so there shouldn't be a problem. The land owner may decide to try again with a different project but, as far as I know, this is the second application to be refused on this property, so future applications are even less likely to get through.

Thanks for the advice Sherwood. I'll get in touch.
