News of the Forest Hill Society's next social Event!

On Sunday 25th February, local historian, Steve Grindlay, will be taking us on a 2 hour historical walking tour of Forest Hill starting at 2pm at Christ Church, South Road and concluding in London Road at 4pm. Steve knows a huge amount about local history and you are guaranteed to learn something new about the area.
We look forward to seeing you.

I'm looking forward to meeting those of you who can make it next Sunday; I do hope the weather's fine.

As a taster, and for those who cannot make it, I've uploaded some pictures of buildings that will feature in the walk. They can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/stevegrindlay/sets/721575945 41194225/
They are in order, so it shouldn't be too difficult to work out the route. I've deliberately not given much information about the pictures as otherwise I'd not have anything to say during the walk.

Steve, the pictures are excellent and I am really looking forward to the walk. I have two young children; will it be appropriate for them to come along?

Just thought I'd bump this thread up a bit to draw it to everyones attention again. I had a dream about this last night- I missed the start and then ran all over FH trying to catch up with the group. What does this mean , do you think? Am I feeling rejected by society?

A big thank you to Steve Grindlay from the Forest Hill Society for a brilliant tour of Forest Hill's historical highlights! About 70 people took part, undeterred by a bit of rain and the cold. From the lowlands of South Road, Steve led us ever higher up the Hill finally reaching the summit at the top of Canonbie Road. He really is a fantastic source of information and conveys it with great enthusiasm.

I echo the thanks for a great afternoon out. The rain never materialised and Steve was a great sport trying to keep 70 of us in touch and shout loud enough for us all to hear. I learned loads and had great fun. Nice to meet more of the Forest Hill Society too.

I had my camera with me, so if anyone is interested in some photos, click here to browse:

Those are great, Robwinton. We also enjoyed the afternoon; it was a nice little hike around Forest Hill. Many thanks to Steve Grindlay.

Nice photos!

I'm ashamed to admit that I missed the tour - I'd promised to help a mate in Bellingham with some DIY and we didn't finish until after 3. Are there any plans for another similar walk in the future?

I am also disapointed that I missed the tour. Hopefully will be another

Unfortunately I was recovering from a hen night. And I'm male. Strange but true.

If this were to be repeated, I'd definitely be there.

Did it involve a uniform and some velcro Pvp?

The historical walk or the hysterical night?

Well, we have had a pub crawl and a history walk -maybe Pvp would be interested in organising a Forest Hill Society hen night. Open to everyone of course. We are a broadminded lot.

We may need a bit of notice to organise the goat

Great walk on Sunday Steve. Many thanks. Any chance I could see the Surrey House picture again please?

Yes, Vipes, it should still be here:

By selecting it, and then clicking on "all sizes" you can see it at its original resolution.

Thanks for uploading those pictures, Rob, but who is that grey-haired old man that keeps popping up?

I did wake up on Sunday to find I had a 'hickie'. At 33 that's really not good.
