Hi,we are considering having our loft converted followed by a kitchen extension, the latter being very complicated for various site related reasons, and the main hurdle now is finding an appropriate builder and project nanager to run the job.
We think having a professional consultant to manage the contract is a good idea. Like a lot of people we have suffered in the past with builders so only want to proceed on strong recommendations and references. If you have direct experience of having your loft converted or know anyone who has, I'd appreciate hearing from you, also recommendations for both builders and project managers.

Have found several builders through the FMB website but not made a decision yet, but would still prefer to have personal recommendations from someone who has gone through the experience of such work. Even combined it seems that few firms want to take on the contract administration of anything less than £100k.

Hi, some keen firms from the FMB list turned up to have a look and I have been given some examples of completed works and works in progress to see. However I think that whilst they may be competent they are fairly small and seem to operate very informally hence I may go with one of the firms that do loft conversions only as a package to shell finish plus services - they do so many , are usually well warrantied with Trustmark etc, that they will probably be the best choice.
