Hi there, I am currently looking at nurseries for my son, who will be three in June. I have no idea where to start! Kilmorie is the closest to us - can anyone recommend it? Or any others that are better?

Grateful for any advice really - I'm assuming it's best to look round nurseries, but should you just turn up or ring for an appointment? What are the advantages/disadvantages of school versus private? Sorry if these questions sound a bit broad but I just don't know where to start! Thank you.

Hello, my son doesn't go but I know lots of people who send their children to the Kilmorie nursery and both they and their children are really happy with it.

If you are near Kilmorie, then you may also be near Little Acorns, which is a fantastic nursery (Ofsted outstanding) http://littleacornsnurserycatford.co.uk/...le-acorns/
and especially convenient if you commute via Catford stations. It's small, but extremely well run and all the kids (mine included) get on very well there.

Hi, check the ofsted and go for a look around, you will probably have to phone and make an appointment. There are staff to kid ratios and there are likely to be set activities during which the staff wont be thankful that you turn up i.e. teaching/circle time/lunch time. I know of someone who used Kilmorie nursery and she was very happy with it. For me the main difference is Kilmorie is I think half days, I am at work so need the full days offered by private. You are entitled to, I think, 15hrs free the term after your child turns 3

You are wise to start your hunt now. I don't know what school nursery policy is but good private places fill up fast and you need to get your name on the waiting list. Go and see a selection, ultimately you get a feel for where you will be happy for your son to go. Good Luck

Kilmorie Nursery is really good.

The difference between school nurseries and private nurseries is the hours. Every child aged 3 is entitled to 15 hours of nursery care. In school nurseries this usually happens 5 days a week for 3 hours a day.

Private nurseries have different hours e.g. full days, which are better for working parents. However you will have to pay for the extra hours. Also private nurseries may offer the option of giving them lunch.

It really depends on what fits in with you, but do ring and have a look round a few - as others have said it's best not to just turn up as you may not be able to see round.
There is also St Georges Pre-school Nursery on Elm Lane which is nice.
