Brian, I used to live on Tyson so know all about it Wink

As for using DR as a "short cut" I think the phrase I would choose is an "alternative" its certainly not shorter than the South Circ.

There is me offering my road for use as a diversion too eh. lol
I dont however thing DR is exclusive to these problems. CR gets more than its fair share of noisy motorists, and wannabie race drivers too. Its all evil, we just all have different experiences.

Thanks Snazy
How about road pricing. That may assist.

Forgive me, but I thought that already exisited in sorts. VED, Fuel Tax etc Smile

Serious though, I think the CC has shown people one important fact, people WANT and WILL use their cars. If they have to pay more for it, so be it. But collecting ?92m in fines for the CC last year did what exactly to help the air quality in London?

Sad but true im afraid the car is here to stay. However the motorist will contribute an increasing percentage of their monthly income to the treasury in the process.

I use my car as little as possible these days of course.

Back to PV though, Michael, any idea why the delay ? I am looking forward to having a bigger pavement there, so pedestrians can share it with me and my dogs without feeling the need to throw themselves infront of on coming cars.

Point taken Snazy

Re PV , pavement area on railway side looks as though it will be quite wide.

lol sorry Brian, was not trying to go on about it. Just bored at work.

Pavement on railside will indeed be very large, 2metres+ I believe. As per the original plans. I think the whole thing works out very well actually, when it opens again.

Looking at site whilst at work . Must admit I did that when I was working. Hope you are not a heart surgeon though.

I think this has been mentioned before but think we need a dignatory to cut the ribbon on the grand reopening. I think Mayor Boris would be good example any other ideas. Please not Peter Mandleson even if he is back in favour.

I have to do something to pass the day! I would go mad otherwise, and SE23 would have another nutter living in it.

lol @ PM coming to do it, would probably be a scandel about where he sourced the scissors to do it or something.

The pavement looks wide enough to park a car on. So I expect someone will and then we will have to squeeze past it!

That would not suprise me one bit, the selfish people picking people up from the station, or the cabbies.

The new pavement looks great! I thought there were going to be some trees planted along it? Doesn't look like any holes have been left for that though :o(

Can't believe they are taking up the tarmac AGAIN!!!

Tarmac, are they, what are they doing now. I will have to take a look tonight.

As for the trees, not sure they were definate, but if they are going in, its possible they will go in later with all the other furnishings. For the time being they would put a slab in where the tree is going to stop silly people falling down the hole lol.

Right then here goes with the FINAL installment of updates on Perry Vale..

First up.... It WILL reopen on Wednesday at some time.. The celebrity doing the grand opening is.... Mick Hepworth Thumbsup

Last layer of tarmac is going down today along with speed cushions, and some lamp columns go in Wednesday morning, and the last few finishing touches like bike stands etc.

Trees.... will not happen im afraid to report. As the roots from these could damage a gas pipe which is close by and close to the surface. Other alternatives are being considered.

With regards to the tarmac recently being "disturbed"... the reasoning behind it is as follows..

Quote:
The section of "tarmac" that was broken out on Thursday. This was totally intended. We laid a section of the carriageway the other weekend and when we ran out of material we created a ramp for vehicles to travel over. When we continued with the surfacing it was necessary for us to break out the ramped section to create a suitable joint between the old and new material.

Normal service will resume shortly.

Hi Snazy
Thanks for the update , walked past yesterday and saw Tarmac being put down.
I am sure your news will be welcomed in the diversion route but I shall be sorry as much better closed.
With the lovely new pavements I do hope no motorists will be so stupid as to park on it. I hope council put red lines along both sides and patrol on a regular business.

I will be glad to see it back open, as im sure the Ambulance Service will too, as I saw one of their ambulances on blues yesterday try and drive up there.... Doh !

I admit I do like the road quiet when walking the dogs, but all good things end. Hopefully the traffic will start to spread itself out a little over the coming days.

As for cars parking there, fingers crossed the kerbs will prevent it, or common sense will prevail and they will realise there is no room to stop (I know im being stupid now lol)

Hi Snazy
I believe illegal to drive on the pavement but you have to be seen doing it. If you are actually parking on pavement apparently you can say youi did not drive on the pavement somehow the car got there.
I would appreciate an experts info as to the legality or otherwise of parking on pavement.
I never did it out of principal.

I think a lesson can be learnt here from F1 and Massa who would disagree that having any number of wheels on any given surface is actually driving.... lol.

I would agree in principal with your statement though Brian, that they must have broken a law to get there.
I will be taking a look tonight at how high the kerbs are to see if its even possible, but at the same time I hope there is no raised crossing point which would act as a ramp to get up the said kerb.

Posts would be nice however Smile

Lets wait til Wed evening to see how it all turns out Smile

Definition of 'Driving' given by a judge on a court case...

'Causing a vehicle to move by operation of the controls'

...even though in the case involved it was only a matter of inches.

LINES, PEOPLE!!!!! We've got actual lines painted on the road!! Could it be (gasp) that they have nearly finished it? It looks lovely and neat (except for the splodges of dog poo that have already found themselves onto the new pavement....?
