I feel for you meduza - after years of starting at our place about 8, the bin men (not the recycling ones, the rubbish collectors) have started coming about 5.50am......Cursing

I am waiting for a response from the council about what their working hours should be.

Whilst I have sympathy surely shows a good work ethic that they are starting that early.
I would imagine they do it as can get round quicker than in the morning rush.

It was already a problem in 1994 but for some people that period seems to be a bit of a blur...

Why would it 'show a good work ethic' to start before 6am? They almost certainly do it to have the afternoon off.

Snap, that was why it used to hack me off...5 years on the kids are at the back of the house and it is just us grown-ups that 'enjoy' an early start to each Tuesday.

I spoke to Lewisham the other week about this. Their starting time is apparently 6am but should not be sooner.

Personally, I think even 6am is a bit early for such a noisy job. I'm sure if I had a party every week and whacked up the volume at 6am the Council's noise enforcement team would have a few choice words to say about it.

The dustmen amd recycling collectors do a great job, they are efficient and get the job done as quickly as they can. If I started work that early I'd also want to be finished by early afternoon after eight hours of collecting rubbish. In winter it's freezing cold (during the winter just gone they came round every week except when the gritters failed to come and make teh roads safe. In summer which can at times be boiling hot they collect teh stinky rubbish. It must be horrid emptying bins into the lorries expecially then. Can't fault or blame them at all.

I don't think they do a particularly 'great' job at all. They leave our bins half way down the road and it's taken me nearly three months to get their office staff (who are very helpful) to persuade them to return them. That's the recycling crew.

The others start work at a very antisocial hour and bash the bins/shout into their mobile phones when people are trying to sleep.

Why dont you and your neighbours take all your rubbish to the tip then the bin men wont need to come around at all?

Perhaps ear plugs would help! Can't fault the bin men they do a great job. They even collect the bins which people are to lazy to take out to the front of their properties. Come on its one day a week surely its not a big problem!

2 days of the week in my street and given that I never get a lie-in it is a problem Sad I'm woken early on the first two days of my working week and never really recover.

They might do an OK job but they are too early to be doing it that noisily. They are obviously rushing to do their job as quickly as possible, either because the council are expecting them to cover too many areas in one shift or because the quicker they do it the earlier they knock off.
