Mr Horniman’s Home From Home:
Join us for an outdoor appreciation of a quirky Victorian suburb
Frederick Horniman established his home in what was then the small suburb of Forest Hill. It had become a commuter suburb due to the London to Brighton railway passing through it fifty years earlier.
On this hour long walk we will first of all stroll through the magnificent Horniman Gardens. Then walking along alleyways and minor roads, we will observe how a few villas for the well to do became a suburb with an unusual character, many of whose quirky Victorian buildings still remain. We will finish at Forest Hill station, now connected to East London by the new London Overground.
Meet at the entrance desk to the Museum at 3pm on:
Thursday 30th December
Or Sunday 2nd January
A children’s quiz will be provided with answers given at the end. The walk is free but donations are welcome.
