A warning that there'll be no trains at all from Forest Hill or HOP for two whole weekends from next Saturday, which are the 4th and 5th and 11th/12th. Also no services on Sunday 19th February.

Southern will provide a replacement bus service calling at all stations between London Bridge and West Croydon, also calling at Crystal Palace and Selhurst. Passengers can pick up the bus at FH from the Capitol towards LB or Santander towards West Croydon.

ELL services will start/terminate at New Cross Gate.

Any idea why?

We live just south of Forest Hill and there generally seems to be an awful lot of work on this section of line.

I'm also curious as to why I sometimes see Gatwick Express coaches on this line. I figured 're-positioning of stock' might be the answer, but can't quite see why they would head this way...

Southern and Gatwick Express merged a couple of years back, so during the peaks they use some of their stock for use on services to and from London Bridge.

According to this info on tfl's website, the Overground extension from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction will open this year, which means that the track works have to be finished by late Spring to start testing of the line.

So I wondered if we've had no Overground the last few weekends because of works to join up the new line to the old one near Surrey Canal Road? Last time I went past on the Overground the new line looked to be nearing completion.

The northern part of the ELL has remained open during the last three weekends of engineering works.

However it will close between Shadwell and H&I on 17th March and between New Cross Gate and H&I on 18th March.

The week before, there's another closure between LB/NXG and West Croydon with replacement buses instead.

Is this to do with extending platform lengths?

If you mean the platform lengths on the section of our line, they were all done by the December timetable change.

There's been no confirmation that ELL trains will be extended to 5 carriages, so platform extension work north of NXG (except Canada Water, Rotherhithe and Wapping) won't happen yet.

I am planning to move to the Honor Oak area but transport links are very important - I regularly commute to Bloomsbury and occasionally to the
Richmond/Kew area. Ease of getting to Charing X is crucial; ease of getting to Victoria and Waterloo is also important. At the moment all this looks good but I am totally confused about the proposed changes to services at the end of this year caused by the new orbital run by Overground. Does anyone have any idea how the services from Honor Oak Park will be affected? Or do I need to make sure I stay within spitting distance of Catford Bridge?

I suggest you consider Crofton Park railway station as it goes to Victoria.

What's 'the new orbital run by Overground'?

More problematic for Charing Cross would be the changes mentioned elsewhere on this forum of no trains between LB and CX in 2015, which while they'll be temporary, who knows how long they'll last.

Southern service between London Bridge and Victoria is due to close later this year. Surrey Quays will be connected to Clapham Junction via Peckham Rye completing the London orbital. See:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projects...15403.aspx

I simply can't get my head round the effect of all this on services from stations further down the lines given in the 2015 diagram. At least the posts here explain why Charing X does not appear!

Just to clarify, currently southern operate an inner south london loop via Peckham Rye and an outer south london loop via HOP, FH, CP etc.

The line which will be replaced by london overground is the inner loop rather than the outer loop therefore this does not affect HOP etc.

The best route to Victoria is the direct train from HOP to Victoria (36minutes), I believe that Crofton Park only goes Victoria on the weekend as in the week it goes to Kings Cross.

Charing Cross on the other hand is slightly more tricky which is where an alternative route from London Bridge needs to be found such as tube or bus.

hope this helps

Thanks - that more or less sorts out my confusion. I can't be the only person who doesn't know which company runs which lines or that there are two loops. I'd assumed it was the one via Crystal Palace that wa being closed. So basically HOP unaffected. Phew.

There will be at least three viable options when CX services don't call at London Bridge.

1. Jubilee line to Southwark which connects to Waterloo East's platforms, then Southeastern to Charing Cross NR.

2. London Bridge to Cannon Street, then District or Circle to Embankment.

3. Jubilee line from LB to Waterloo, then Northern or Bakerloo to Charing Cross.

You can also use the ELL to Canada Water or Whitechapel and change for the tube. There's also the option of changing at Shadwell for the DLR, then Bank walking across to Monument for the District/Circle to Embankment.

If all fails, leave an hour earlier for work and get the 176 bus from London Road instead!

Not happy about this.

I don't like using the tube and I use the LB to CC train a lot!

I use the Southeastern service to CX at least once a week. My main concern is that I don't want to be charged the NR/TfL combined fare to Charing Cross. I'm sure the Oyster people will have fares sorted by that time, so we're not penalised and NR seasons to CX will probably be accepted.

Why has the 8.33am from HOP to LB suddenly got so much busier? Anyone else noticed?
