Quite humbling to see the Normandy Veterans. Our Greatest Generation.
Doubt if many of us would be here today without the sacrifices these brave men and women did.
Also spare a thought for the Germans who also perished.
Lest hope that peace prevails forever in this at times insane world.

Agreed Foresthiller. As we move further and further erway from it in time it becomes harder to comprehend what our (well us of a certain age) parents went through.

To right Erekose. My Mum would come out in goose pimples whenever she hear the sound of the warning air raid siren. Interestingly the all clear had no effect.
As to my Dad. He was called up in the latter part of the war because of his age. My mum said "He was a different man when he returned".
I often wonder what would be the response these days to a similar threat. I suspect it would suddenly seem a lot less crowded.

I sometimes wonder about the so called problems with single parent families. All through both wars most families were brought up by a single parent. Perhaps it's just down to the lack of discipline these days.

Agree about the one parent families, I do believe that it is down to no discipline. Maybe we started going down hill in the so called swinging sixties, however I will not tarnish all out youth, as most are very nice young people with excellent manners
My dad always used to quote, lets see if we have another war, how many would now go and join up
