Tai Wu was Chinese.
I think they did a lot of takeaway business.

Absolutely gutted to hear about The Palmerston run Thai place choosing Bellenden Road instead of us, and dumbfounded that rents would be cheaper there!!!! The Palmerston's a well established professional place which knows how to run a good kitchen serving excellent food, it would have been excellent to have had them close by.
Tai Wu was a great 'Chinese', we regularly got takeaway's from there and wish the lovely owner and his minimal staff all the best.

Sounds like those miserable people protesting against Sains should have a new target - landlords charging rents that are very high, seems to me that could be a significant reason why there are not so many new young businesses opening in the area?

Bellenden Road feeds from the rather affluent streets just north, very much East Dulwich yummy mummy territory (I know a few who happen to live there).

Stephen's son is the new tenant - so at least the family is retaining the building
The Tai Wu is a sad loss though but think his time was up so to speak.

Anyone noticed any activity here?
I pass it every time I go to the station and nothing seems to be going on.

Check the email address previously provided on this topic and you will understand why there is an "apparent" lack of activity. Investigate on Google

This secretive nonsense is stupid, clearly whoever has taken it over do not have any serious plans
Now that the sainsburys is confirmed the building should be more attractive to serious businesses not a bunch of hippies

I have no connection with the business but I can assure you that far from being nonsense, the business is serious and the marketing inspired - and it is working well AFAICT on a short lease.

Strategically, as far as the parade is concerned, a more visibly present business would be much more preferable. And, yes I would agree that the confirmation for Sainsburys should help encourage this.

I do not understand the hippy reference.

A small experiential venture is being staged at The Old Bank. Apparently it's very interesting. I won't spoil the surprise.

Ha, I understand where you're coming from Southlondoner with your use of the word hippies, I think however, for many SE23 readers, 'alternative' may have been a more sensitive word to use. I also however understand where you're coming from when you talk about a serious business.
I think quite a bit of work has been going on behind those blacked out windows (I hope so anyway), and hopefully we'll see quite a transformation once the 'suprise' has been bestowed upon us. Fingers crossed it is something which has a bit of depth, benefits those of us that live in the area, and not just something that satisfies the whims of a few 'alternative' types who are doing it for their own entertainment.

I do agree with Benoit in that it should be good for Honor Oak Park, and hope it is successful; and if so either they stay on using the premises or proove to other potential interested parties what a great spot The Old Bank is for the basic type of service they will be providing.

hippies - love it
they do look a bit too cool for school that lot, but not sure who would take it otherwise, is too big for a restaurant in HOP if you ask me.

Cheeky, I'm afraid the 'surprise' is already underway. It's secretive nature means many people won't even have noticed. The 'surprise' continues until October when The Old Bank will be empty again...

It will be occupied for longer - at least until xmas, maybe beyond indeed BCM an ongoing concern restaurant / bar concern would be really welcomed.
