Pat asked that this be fwd:
I have e-mailed Number 10 (contents see below.) In order to work up a number of e-mails could you and any friends relations, neighbours, contacts etc etc do the same and ask for the minister to intervene using his powers under the 1964 Act to prevent the destruction of the public library service-
Go on to http://www.number10.gov.uk/contactus
Once the page is up click on Contact the Prime Minister's Office and click GO
This is wot i wrote ... you have 1000 characters!
"Per annum the 5 libraries had 327,000 visits, 264,000 issues, 25,443 signed the petitions against the 5 library closures.
The "community libraries" will provide fewer books, no evening opening, loss of professional staff, primary school pupils will suffer, especially at w/ends & in the holidays.
Why is Ed Vaizey, minister at the DCMS, not intervening to stop this reduction in the library service in Lewisham as he is required to do by law under the 1964 Public Libraries and Museums Act?
The resulting 2 tier service for the people of Lewisham must not be tolerated by central government which has a legal duty and moral obligation to fulfil the 1964 Act.
Government must be conducted in the interests of all the people, not the privlileged few."

Please get something going!

Peter and Pat
