I know back garden parties all night have anoyed me to say the least. What has happened to the idea of consideration for others. Surely these parties should cease at the latest midnight.
I believe there is a council number manned 24/7 who will come round and instruct them to reduce noise, or has that stopped.

Such consideration seems to be lacking these days. The concept of being entitled to "peaceful enjoyment" of your home is dead.

I believe the council Environmental Health people are so under-resourced that you need to call early in the evening to get a chance of them visiting which defeats the point.

According to http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/Environment/P...hbours.htm they say:

Quote:
After 11pm we expect no noise to be audible in neighbouring properties.

The police will not respond to noise-type complaints unless there is a fight under way. I have considered this as a route to getting them to respond in the past ;-).

BarCar you're not on Tatnell or Parbury by any chance? If so I know the very marquee and party you are referring to!

But lucky us, we got a note shoved through our door on that same day warning us that this would happen. I was trying to work out whether I think this is unacceptable or not - at first I thought a big party once in a blue moon is fine, but as my husband pointed out, if everyone did that then no-one would ever get any sleep! Also, they had a similar party about a year ago, and got tons of complaints, which is why I think they tried the note thing...

Yup - that's the one. We live 4 doors away and didn't get a note - we could hardly hear our own TV at times.

I don't mind people having occasional parties but I think having the music so loud it can be heard several houses away with all the doors and windows closed and going on past 4am is unreasonable. If they want to do that then they should hire a venue.

Of course, as soon as you involve the council you impact on your property sale potential since you need to declare any formal disputes on sale.

It really makes me fume but there's really nothing effective that you can do with current legislation (without harming your own position) as I see it.
