Yikes! It's an ice rink. I do appreciate that the pavements leading up to the underpass have been gritted, but the car park on Perry Vale, which is Lewisham owned, is covered in ice. I pulled in to pick up my husband and realised it was a bad decision when there were no Forest Hill Cars loitering in the car park, as they usually do of an evening.
I need to use this car park tomorrow and am seriously concerned about even stepping out of my car. I reported it online tonight and realised I should have logged it on the Love Lewisham app while I was there. Is there any other way to flag this up to the council? I know roads are a priority, but as the roads are pretty good now, a little grit in the car park would be nice.

I phoned the council this morning and have lodged a request for the car park to be gritted. You can do this for any road that is not on their gritting map (which you can view online here: http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/tr...g-map.aspx) if you feel it is dangerous. The council have done much better this year with main roads and some pavements, but do reply on us to let them know if there are other areas that need done.
I'll be heading to the car park at lunchtime - here's hoping it gets gritted by then.

On the whole I think Lewisham have done a pretty good job this year. Previous years it has done less well especially in comparison to neighbouring boroughs but having cycled through Lewisham and Southwark over the last few days it is notable how well Lewisham have gritted residential streets while everything bar the main roads in Southwark seems to have been neglected.

I agree, it's been much better. The pavements on our road were being gritted this morning by the street cleaners, using the heaps of grit left for them by the council. It makes such a difference. I wouldn't have asked them to do the car park in preference to the roads and pavements, but since they seem so well on top of those, I thought I would.

Lewisham have even gritted my road (Canonbie Road). They haven't done that since I moved here about 4 years ago.

I would have thought Canonbie was one of the priority roads for gritting given how steep it is and the risk of cars sliding down the hill and out onto Honor Oak without being able to stop!

AMFM, you'd have thought that, but until this year all they seemed to do was stick up some road closed signs and leave it at that.
Of course, you got the idiots who decided to ignore the signs. In some ways it was amusing to watch the morons attempt to drive up the ice rink that Canonbie Road became. As for the residents who tried to drive down the road I'm surprised there wasn't a one or more serious accidents.

My DH got chatting to a gritter driver as he came down our (narrow!) road, during a break in a killer snowball fight with out younger son. Apparently, our road's not on his route - unsurprisingly as it's a small cul-de-sac - but he reckoned that as he was passing, he might as well do ours as well. Kudos to the gritter driver, but he'll probably get told off by his bosses for wasting grit.

We have been pleasantly surprised at the council's response to the recent snow-we live in a Cul-De -Sac off a no through road and they came and gritted twice to my knowledge.
When I lived in Westminster they only gritted the main roads and side streets were left as ice rinks-I've not seen that happen in our immediate area.

That's the way it was two years ago - main roads just about passable, everything else a death trap, and NO gritting on ANY pavements. It looks like they've reviewed their procedures since then. The disruption this time around has been much less severe, due to really sensible gritting. Thanks, Lewisham!
