Mobile phone mast at Fairlawn Primary...

TETRA (Terrestrial trunk radio system) is a new type of mobile phone system which will be used by the emergency services. 02 Airwaves is the company that operates TETRA and is planning to have its new system in operation throughout the UK by 2005.

02 Airwaves made an application to Lewisham Council in October 2003 to site a TETRA mast on a council owned building in Greystead Rd which is directly adjacent to Fairlawn Primary School.

The parents and governors of the school are very concerned for the health and safety of our children as recent research on the effects of TETRA suggest that this system may be very dangerous to those living or working in the vicinity of the mast. The radiation from these masts is of particular danger to children.

Parents from Fairlawn Primary School have started a campaign to stop this mast from going up next to the school as the school has not been consulted either by Lewisham Council or by 02 Airwaves, which should have been done as part of the planning procedure.

At present we are trying to raise awareness and publicity and we desperately need a large, highly visible banner to hang on the school perimeter fence overlooking Honor Oak Road. Are there any printers/banner makers out there who would be willing to do this for our campaign in return for free advertising space?

We would be very grateful for any help, support and ideas from Forest Hill traders and concerned residents.

If anybody is in any doubt concerning pulsed emission/transmission waves, go to: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,487344,00.html

Message to all the punters who drink in 'Equal' bar on Honor Oak High St.
When you are up at the bar remember to sign the petition calling for the withdrawl of the TETRA mast application from Honor Oak Road.
The mast is sited between two primary schools and although this may not affect you now, one day it will!

There's also another site with plenty of info at:
http://www.hippy.freeserve.co.uk/tetra.htm
It's a little biased, but also has links to other information sources, such as the original report on TETRA

FAME (fairlawn against mobile emissions) are doing a really good job. The petition is approaching 1000 signatures which shows the strength of feeling against this mast.

However, O2 Airwave have invested 2.5 billion pounds into getting this system up and running....and they are not about to be put off by a bunch of concerned parents.

So everyone.....get writing to Lewisham Council, the mayor, your MP even.

We need to increase the pressure on Lewisham Council to reject this application. It all rests in their hands and they will only bow to strong opposition from the public who pay their wage and can vote them out!

A good person to write to is
Mr Dave Ridley
Lewisham Council
Housing and Regeneration
Laurence House
1 Catford RD
Catford
SE6 4RU

and why you are at it.......write to;

Rt Hon Lord Rooker
Minister of State Housing and Planning
House of Commons
Westminster
London SW1A OAA

O2 Airwave never consulted with the school at any point during the planning procedure as they should have

Lewisham never consulted with the school at any stage during the planning procedure

This mast is being forced on our community and until research can prove once and for all that it is safe it should not go ahead.

In case anyone is a bit confused.....the application was made to Lewisham Council on 30th September 2002 (not 2003)
oops!

I am shocked that such new and un-tested technology should be put up between two primary schools. The people in SE23 should write to their council and have it stopped.
Keep up the good work members of fame!

I saw the petition today outside Forest Hill station. Anyone who cares about the future of our children and their health should sign it.

Most Local People have known for decades that the Location you talk about has many transmitter masts.

You can see them on the skyline if you head for the nieghbouring hills. And I am not talking about Crystal Palace!

We have always had them there!

Is one more really that bad?

Sure their are health risks. But what hasn't?

Research continues, thankfully.

Have a walk around and have a look at this area. It is not the sort of place where kids grow up with one eye in the middle of their foreheads. This is a nice area with a decent living. The schools are good and the two schools you talk off have lived under the shadow of these masts for years.

The People who have gone to both schools over the last two decades have, I am sure, passed through the school system and gone into decent jobs and are probably living hear in Forest Hill with their own Children.

Also, I take you back to the original posting. If the emergency services can not be given the equipment to do the job we ask of them, what sort of society would be living in?

Forgot to mention.

The benefits of the masts include not having airplanes crash into us.

The fire brigade getting to fires and other emergencies where we might otherwise suffer loss or worse.

The Police being able to talk to each other when going after the one who tried to nick your car!

Probabley a few more other bits that keep us safe and in the climate we enjoy in Forest Hill.

The bigest health risk we face in modern life on the subject of electro magnetic impulses radiating through our bodies is the simple 'ring main' in your own homes that comes alive every time you turn on the lights!

Kevin doesn't seem to appreciate that the mast that is being discussed, doesn't actually exist at present. Everything he lists as being benefit of the mast that isn't, happens already, e.g. Fire Bridgade getting to fires, etc, as we would want them to continue to do so, but with out putting our health and the health of our children in jeopardy.

Go to http://www.starweave.com/skeleton/ to learn more.

I attended the parents meeting at Fairlwan School, a parent who is a radio engineer spoke very eloquently, explaining among other things that tetra is obsolete, and there exists better and safer systems that have been proven to work. O2 Airwaves had no answers to his arguments.

Your last paragraph sir, needs to be communicated to those who are making the proposals.

If that is truely the case, then I see no reason for it's development.

Case won

Well Done.
