The following is an extract from the South London Press electronic version. It is the lead news story for today, Friday 7th November 2003. I suggest that Forest Hill Residents take carefull note. NINE post offices in Lewisham could be wiped out as part of ongoing closures across South London. Post offices now facing the axe are in Sandhurst Market, Catford; Kirkdale, Sydenham; Woodvale, Forest Hill; Brockley Road, Brockley; Cranbrook Road, Deptford; Stanstead Road, Catford; Loampit Hill, Lewisham; Staplehurst Road, Hither Green; and Verdant Lane, Grove Park. The Post Office's head of area, Drew McBride, said research and discussions with sub-postmasters showed the number left in Lewisham would be the maximum that local business could sustain. People who want to comment should contact the National Consultation Team, PO Box 2060, Watford WD18 8ZW, by December 16. |

Wood Vale, Forest Hill?- I presume this is the sub-post office and not our main office in Dartmouth Road. I suppose we have to pay for the excellent management of the Post Office such as all that money well spent on the legions of consultants who thought up the highly successful and popular "Consignia". |

The Kirkdale post office is definitely closing - due to lack of custom according to the post office, even though there is usually a queue outside in the mornings when pensions and family allowances are due! |

That explains why they wont sell me stamps. No doubt they also shut down the Moor Park Tavern and the Crystal Palace High Level train line. Huh. On the (serious) positive side no more armed robberies in Wood Vale |
